Softening into Autumn

Writer's picture: Dawn OeiDawn Oei

Softening into Autumn and loving its beautiful colours. The leaves, now red, orange, yellow and brown feel soft under foot. The air's been chilly and damp and humid. On the grass were two Magpies. One took off and rested on a branch. The second one did the same.

In Chinese Medicine, Autumn is the season of the Metal Element: The Lung and Large Intestine meridians symbolise the letting go of things that no longer serve us as we make space and room for new experiences and impressions.

We are also invited to pause, take a breath, self-reflect and be aware of our borders and boundaries. Self-respect, self-care, consideration and compassion towards ourselves comes first.

Seasonal food (stewed apples, pumpkin soup, roasted squash) with turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, pepper and other spices provide a good source of warm Earth nourishment that can support our Metal element as we carry out our daily tasks. 🎃🫚🥥🌶️
